Local Green Fees Trust Centre

Privacy Policy

Last updated: Sunday, March 22, 2020

Summary

Local Green Fees does not and will not ever sell your personal information.

Local Green Fees funds our costs with Google ads or banner/on-page advertising or ads sold to individual golf courses. As of January 1, 2020, our Google ads settings restricts data processing for users in California (see more California-specific information below). You can turn off Google ads on our site using the switch below. Users with the Google Ads switch turned off may still see ads for individual golf courses as these are not presented using any personal location data.

Local Green Fees also uses Google Analytics to better understand our users and to see where our site is the most popular. In this manner, we maximize our information sources to keep our busiest cities up to date with green fees and course information. Google Analytics tracks things like what IP address you come from, your browser, and your city. You can turn off Google Analytics on our site using the switch below.

Both of the switches below use cookies that store no personal information (called optOutAds and optOutAnalytics respectively) on your system to opt-out of these Google services which are used by default. Clearing all your cookies or using a different browser will require you to make these switch selections again.

When you visit any city page on Local Green Fees, we use a cookie (called city) that stores the url of the city page. We do this so the next time you visit our website, we can relocate you to the last city page you visited. For the vast majority of our users, visiting one of our websites relocates them automatically to their locale.

We ask for your email address when you register but we do not store it.

Why we ask for your email address during registration if we don't store it?

We allow users to track where they have golfed and to login to contribute to or update our site. We require an email address for this privilege but do not store it in our database. Rather, we create an irreversible, algorithmic hash so that we limit the amount of personal information in our database (see Hashes below).

A small subset of our users use the tools on our website to purposely provide misleading or untrue information or to upload what can be considered offensive or incorrect images or comments. Because this can only be done by logged in users, if this type of activity is detected or reported and confirmed, we permanently ban users using the irreversible, algorithmic hash of their email address.

We do store the domain portion of your email address (example: gmail.com) in order for employees of golf courses to claim a golf course information page.
